Sandy Con goes International!
Sandy Con goes International!!30/04/2018

Some members of Sandy Con recently took on Balaia Bowls Club in the Algarve, Portugal and came away with an impressive victory considering they played with borrowed bowls! - Glyn Milbourne, Richard Beard, Chris Beard, Steve Mousley, Dale Phillipson, Ian Jones and Wayne Humberstone were in Portugal on a "working holiday" and this game was arranged over a year ago. The game was played in brilliant sunshine as you can see and the boys came away with 42-21 shot victory! So now the Sandy Con shirts have now travelled and played abroad!

Dates for your diary04/03/2018

Some dates to put in your diary please.

Our Pre season get together will take in the Main Hall at the Club on FRIDAY 13th APRIL commencing at 7pm. Further details to follow but there will be a fun quiz, bring and share buffet, and Ian Jones, our new competitions manager will be conducting the club competition draws. The Committee looks forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Please invite your friends and family too. This is a good way for the whole club, including our new members to get together prior to the start of the season.

During the week beginning MONDAY 16th APRIL it will be the working week and in due course, Mick Cooper will be asking for the normal help and assistance in helping preparing the green and surrounds for hopefully another successful season and to help bring the club up to it's normal high standard.

The green opening day is MONDAY 23rd APRIL (weather permitting of course!)

Please could I ask if any of you who knows any of our members who do not have access to emails then please inform them of

Wearing of shorts
Wearing of shorts25/02/2018

Please be aware of the following.

I recently attended the EBL AGM and Holwell BC who have teams in the league have stated ~NO ONE is allowed to wear shorts on their green during any game. If someone turns up in shorts and does not have trousers to change into then the match has to be forfeited'. I know a couple of you like to wear shorts during the balmy days of summer (when they arrive!) so please do not get caught out.
In my opinion this opens a can of worms as a team for example just before an important game could suddenly announce just as a game is due to start that no shorts are allowed and then what happens next? It appears the Captain is going to have to ask if clubs object.
Although this seems a little out dated we have to abide by the rules so please make sure you always have trousers in your bag.

Winter Quiz
Winter Quiz - January29/01/2018

On Friday we held our Winter quiz where 40 members, friends and family met at Sandy Con hall for an evening of entertainment and fun. The quiz master Glyn ran the evening again and everyone who came brought a bring and share buffet. A good sum was raised for club funds through the raffle and thank to you for everyone who attended and donated a raffle prize. We look forward to the next one taking place in April (date TBA) where the club competitions will also be drawn on the night.

18 members recently travelled to St. Neots Indoor BC and came away with a hard fought 100-90 shot victory. This was an excellent performance considering a number of Sandy Con bowlers do not even bowl indoor! Well done to everyone concerned
